Development and Innovation
PREFA KOMPOZITY product development targets specific applications to satisfy customer requirements and maintain leadership in new, innovative composite materials and products.
Our current development activities include:
- Development of manufacturing know-how in new composite materials satisfying strict fire safety and fire-retardancy criteria. We collaborate with external partners in several ongoing development projects in this area.
- Guest university lectures as part of the European Social Fund program
- Development results published in academic journals and presented at industry fairs and conferences
Given the large number of innovative projects to manage the company works in a team effort with institutes of technology, technical universities and leading research institutes both in the country and abroad. The projects focus primarily on improving properties of the composite material, on developing composites with new features and creating new structural assemblies to suit specific customer needs. Since 1999 the company has been striving to advance the applications of non-metallic fibres in building materials through a Centre founded to this end.
With the governmental funding obtained from the Grant Agency of the Czech Republic and the Department of Industry and Commerce altogether dozens R & D projects have been implemented starting from 1996.
Project partners and cooperating organisations:
One of our latests project: BALBAR
BALBAR is a mobile multi-stage protection system enabling protection of IRS units in various risk situations. The mobile protective and ballistic barrier is being created in the framework of the FV10506 project – Research and development of the mobile ballistic barrier formed by the composite board and water filling.
Ballistic resistant composite GFRP (Glass Fiber Reinforced Polymer) boards are molded plates based on polymer resin and glass reinforcement. Their degree of ballistic resistance depends, as with other materials, on their thickness.
Ballistic-resistant GFRP boards designed for use in the BALBAR barrier system provide protection from pistol projectiles and fragments of hand, mortar and artillery shells of small and medium caliber and from shrapnel effects of improvised explosive systems.
Testing was carried out in cooperation with various units of the Fire Rescue Service of the Czech Republic, the Czech Police and the Czech Army.
